The battle between Wikitude and Layar is heating up. Could it mirror the desktop browsers wars? Which one will become the defacto AR browser?

Engadget is running a piece about a new game from PlayStation that goes with their PS-Eye camera, called the EyePet. Essentially it's an augmented reality tamagotchi - the little critter needs to be fed, loved, cleaned and so on, and walks around your living room. But what questions does this raise for the future of real pets?

Scientists at MIT have revealed a clever new method of detecting markers, to appear in SIGGRAPH 2009. The method could potentially replace standard barcodes, QR codes, and even RFIDs, for certain applications. Its effect on augmented reality could be substantial.

Most of the web AR apps found today are toys. Literally, or really just basic demonstratrations of marker capture technologoy. The USPS Priority Mail Virtual Box Simulator shows that they can actually have practical use.
